What is a Pedorthist?
A Pedorthist addresses medical conditions related to the lower extremities (i.e., below the knee). Pedorthic devices are splints and braces that can be worn with or without footwear, and footwear that is has been or can be modified. These devices, created by trained and pedorthists, aid patients in daily living by preventing or relieving painful and/or disabling conditions.
Pursuant to a written order/prescription, a pedorthist evaluates a patient's condition, takes measurements and impressions, and creates and properly fits the appropriate device(s). Pedorthists are integral to the physical and emotional well-being of patients, providing instruction and training on how to properly use and maintain their devices.
ABC and Ohio Board Licensed Pedorthist are qualified to provide and/or supervise the assessment, treatment plan development and implementation, follow-up and practice management of people using prescribed pedorthic devices and therapeutic footwear. ABC C-Ped's are recognized professionally as having completed a rigorous education and training program that satisfies industry standards.
What is a Orthotic Fitter?
An orthotic fitter fits and delivers prefabricated orthotic devices. An orthotic fitter works directly
with patients to evaluate their needs, formulate a treatment plan, and provide follow-up care to insure successful outcomes.
Orthotic fitters are trained to provide certain custom-fitted, prefabricated off-the-shelf orthoses.
